A 58-year-old woman is recovering after being attacked in her bed by a man.
The victim, who has not been named by police, was sleeping at her home in Cliffe Lane, Gomersal, when the attacker burst in through a front window at about 1.30am yesterday.
He grabbed the woman, who was alone at the time, but she managed to fight him off and trigger an alarm, sending the raider fleeing.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire police said the woman had been left with bruises to her chest and arms but did not need hospital treatment and added detectives from Dewsbury had begun interviewing her yesterday afternoon.
Detective Superintendent Max McLean from Dewsbury CID said: "This is a very worrying offence especially as it would appear that no property is missing.
"We are trying to establish a motive for entering these premises."
The attacker was said to be white, between 5ft and 5ft 2ins, with a slim face, dark hair and in his early 20s.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 01924 431059. All calls will be treated in confidence.
