A 16-year-old pregnant mum is living off £50 a week state hand-outs, just two miles away from her millionaire lottery winner father. Emily Bowness, who has an eight month-old son, Shane, and her father Phil, 39, who scooped a £1.25 million lottery jackpot, have not spoken for at least two months.

While she lives alone in a terraced house in North Dean Road, Keighley, Mr Bowness enjoys the comfort of a £350,000 detached house in Goose Cote Lane, Oakworth.

The rift between the two remains a mystery as neither will reveal the root of the problem. But speaking from his home this week Mr Bowness (above right with Emily) said it was his daughter who had the explaining to do.

"Ask her why we fell out. Ask her what she did? She has caused the rift. I have done everything for them," said Mr Bowness who was distressed and angry.

"Her boyfriend has a lot to do with it. I will say no more."

Mr Bowness has separated from his wife Sue, 37. They have four other children, Sarah, 19, Thomas, 13, Frank, nine and Sophie, three.

His daughter, who is expecting a second child in November, said: "I would like to make it up but I don't think he will. I don't know what the problem is."

She claims Mr Bowness totally ignores her and Shane if he sees them on the street. She has even sent him letters begging to make up.

She now survives on £50.07p income support plus £15 family allowance. But from that she has to contribute £20 towards her £70 a week rent.

"I wish we had never heard of the lottery let alone won it," she says. "We used to be happy, but it has brought nothing but heartbreak. The staff in the benefits department could not believe I was the daughter of a lottery winner. I felt terrible asking for financial help"

Her mum now lives with daughter Sophie in a small semi-detached house. Mr Bowness lives with sons Thomas and Frank and Sarah works at a nursing home and lives away.

Emily is still going out with Shane's father, Mike Vickers, 17, who lives with his mum.
