POLICE would like to speak to a man and a boy who called at a house shortly before the owner discovered more than £1,000 worth of jewellery had been stolen. Weetwood Police say they want to talk to a man in his 20s and a bo, aged around 12, to eliminate them from their investigations. The man called at a house on Greenacre Park, Rawdon, and told the woman occupant he had lost a cricket ball in the garden. He knocked at the door again minutes later to ask for a stick to reach under a bush for the cricket ball. The woman looked outside and saw a young boy crawling under a bush in the garden. She spoke to the two for a few minutes, then went back into the house. When she next went into her bedroom, she discovered her bedroom window was open and £1,250 worth of jewellery had been stolen.

A SHOPLIFTER stole hundreds of cigarettes from two Horsforth convenience stores in the same day. The man got away with 200 cigarettes from Heald's Day and Night

mini-market, on Station Road, at 2.40pm last Wednesday. He picked up goods and took them to the counter, where he asked for 200 cigarettes. While the cashier was using the till, he walked out of the shop without paying, taking the cigarettes with him. He drove off in a silver Austin Metro. The man was described as white, in his 30s, with 5ft 6in tall, of a stocky build, unshaven, with brown or dirty blonde short curly hair.

The same thief is believed to have stolen 200 cigarettes from Forbuoys newsagent and mini-market, on Broadgate Lane, at 5.35pm. He took a magazine to the counter and

asked for cigarettes, which he then took without paying. He was

again seen driving off in an Austin Metro.

A MAN broke into a fish and chip shop to steal a charity box and the cash from the till. The burglar broke into a fish and chip shop on New Road, Yeadon, shortly after 5am on Sunday. He smashed a plate

glass panel to get into the shop, then

stole the cash and a charity cash

box which was standing on the counter.

BURGLARS broke into an Otley service station to steal more than £100 worth of cigarettes. The thieves broke a glass pane to get into the Save garage, Gay Lane, shortly after midnight last Mondayand took £160 worth of cigarettes.

THREE youths abandoned a car in the street after trying to push it away.The boys, who were all aged around 16, broke into a Vauxhall Nova parked outside a house on St James' Drive. They broke into the driver's side of the car, and interfered with the ignition, then rolled the car part of the way along the street. They ran off after being

spotted.

A THIEF stole hanging baskets from outside an office block in Horsforth.

The crook took all the hanging

baskets from a company on Low Hall Road in the early hours of

Saturday.
