Keighley Muslims will celebrate the birth of the prophet Muhammed with their annual march around the town on Sunday.

Between 2,000 and 3,000 local Muslims will take part in the walk, which will take a circular route through the town centre.

The now traditional procession, organised by Keighley Muslim Association, will start off at 12.30pm, at the Jamia Mosque's entrance, in Emily Street, and will move along Lawkholme Lane, Alice Street, left into North Street and then left again into Cavendish Street.

It will then proceed along the full length of Cavendish Street before turning into Bradford Road and finally into Parson Street, before finishing back at the Jamia Mosque.

General secretary Mahboob Alam says: "The march has always been a peaceful event, demonstrating the respect, love and understanding our prophet showed to all people.

"We hope that all communities in Keighley, regardless of religion, are able to understand the importance of the event."

Following the walk there will be prayers, recitation of the Quran and lectures delivered on the life of Muhammed, led by chief Imam Pir Abdul Ghaffar and Imam Pir Sayed Basharat Hussain. Refreshments will be served along the way and the march will be broadcast live on Keighley festival radio, which transmits on 106.2fm.
