A VILLAGE society is planning a ceremony to mark the completion of a long-running project - but organisers need help to find out who came up with the idea.
Addingham Civic Society recently completed its revamp of historic George Street, an idea which was first suggested more than nine years ago.
The society now wants to celebrate achieving its goal by holding a special opening ceremony on July 22 - but no-one can remember who dreamed up the idea.
Don Barrett, a member of Addingham Civic Society, said: "We still don't know who first thought of it.
"We know it goes back nine or ten years, and there were one or two false starts, but now it's finally been done. We're trying to get together some older members to ask who actually thought of it."
However, Mr Barrett believes whoever the mystery person was, he or she would be proud of the final results.
"Residents have made their own contribution by putting up hanging baskets, and there's a small garden made by youngsters, which has altered the whole appearance of the street," he said. "It used to be a bit scruffy, but now it's very nice."
He has issued an invitation to the opening to everyone who has donated money or contributed to the project, and any other villagers who are interested.
