A MOVING tribute to an Ilkley woman who died tragically young will be staged by her parents as part of a flower festival.

Joy and Bill Godfrey, of Tivoli Place, are to remember their daughter, Marion, with a display of red roses at this weekend's Musical Flower Festival at St Margaret's Church.

Mrs Godfrey said: "On Marion's anniversary we have always put red roses in the Lady Chapel. That has been our custom. This year as the anniversary coincided with the flower festival we just thought we would have the display there. We will still have red roses but the flower club are doing their interpretation as well."

The couple are also hoping to display one of Marion's poems and play some of her favourite music, at intervals throughout the weekend.

Mrs Godfrey said: "She liked to put things down and often this was in verse form. This particular one was quite uplifting."

The couple are hoping that Marion's friends will feel free to accompany them to the tribute. They will make their own visit after the 10am service and in the afternoon on Sunday between 2.30 and 4.30pm, with Marion's brothers Paul, 38, Hugh, 32, and sister Ursula 37.

Marion died five years ago at the age of 27. Mrs Godfrey said: "This is a celebration of Marion's life."

The flower festival is based on the theme of Haydn's Creation as interpreted by the Ilkley Flower Club. Anyone wishing to contact the Godfreys should do so on (01943) 602526.
