Manywells Quarry, in Cullingworth, could soon be the site of a landfill gas power generation plant if a recommendation to go ahead is acted upon.
Shipley planners say planning permission should be granted for the compound, which would measure 29m by 12.7m and be surrounded by a 2.7m high security fence.
Within the compound there would be a generator, gas pump, enclosed ground flare for use in emergencies and a workshop.
The scheme would use the landfill gases through a gas collection network of bore holes and pipework within the site, and would produce enough gas to generate sufficient electricity to power 1,000 homes.
The project has been awarded a 15-year contract under the fifth tranche of the Non-Fossil Fuel Obligation - created by the Electricity Act 1989, which requires regional electricity companies to offer contracts for non-fossil fuel generators.
Cullingworth Parish Council did not object to the proposal and only two representations were made. These did not object in principle but sought an Environmental Impact Assessment on the following issues: landscaping, odours, noise and vibration, traffic and transport, water pollution, explosion, fire, asphyxiation risks.
Shipley area planning panel will meet on Monday to discuss the issue.
