NOTORIOUS traffic blackspots in Yeadon and Horsforth will be improved after major plans for two hotels and car parking next to Leeds Bradford Airport were approved.

The developers have agreed to contribute to the costs of improving the notorious Carlton Crossroads junction in Yeadon.

And highways officials have proposed that the southern section of nearby Scotland Lane in Horsforth receives

traffic calming measures and that a 30 mph speed restriction be extended northwards.

A 208 bedroom hotel with function rooms and leisure club and a 126 bedroom budget hotel and car parking will now be built on White House Lane, Yeadon, subject to

further negotiations to its design fits into the area. Traffic calming will also be introduced on White House Lane

Councillor Phil Coyne (Lab, Otley & Wharfedale) said: "This is a very important development. It is important for the sustainability of the airport and for its impact in the area."

n COUNCILLORS will visit the site of a controversial application to build 69 houses with a car park on part of the Silver Cross Works site in Back Lane, Guiseley, before making a final decision.

Seven residents had objected to the plans on the grounds that Back Lane could not cope with extra traffic and a petition containing 64 names was submitted from Back Lane residents last year. Planning officers are recommending that city councillors approve the plans, but representations from Councillors Mick and Moira Dunn (both Lab) convinced councillors to visit the site before making their decision, which will now be taken next month.
