A teenage inventor from Cowling has won a national award for his idea to help deaf people.
Casey Bond, 16, won the Arkwright Scholarship after designing a vibrating smoke alarm.
This spring he became only the second-ever South Craven School student to be shortlisted for the prestigious award.
He was judged the winner after travelling to Nottingham Trent University to make a presentation of his device.
Casey will share his £1,000 scholarship with the school to support A-level technology studies.
Casey beat 400 students from over 150 schools to win the scholarship. He will officially receive the award later this year in London.
