First team coach Terry Yorath has left Bradford City just days ahead of the club's debut in Europe.

And the former Wales international boss has already been tipped to link up with former boss Paul Jewell at Sheffield Wednesday.

Yorath helped take charge of the first day of pre-season training yesterday before meeting chairman Geoffrey Richmond.

The City chief said: "Terry came to see me and said he felt things had changed in his mind since Paul Jewell had left.

"He felt it was time for him to perhaps move on. Terry was under contract for another two years but no compensation will be asked for.

"The club don't want to stand in the way of any opportunities that may come along.

"The other thing I should say is that Terry did express a little disappointment but was nevertheless understanding, that he had been overlooked for the assistant manager's role. However I have to stress that this was not the reason behind him asking to leave."

Yorath said: "I thought it would be better for me to do it now. There is a new manager at the club and he has a big season ahead of him.

"We had a great year but Paul brought me to the club and it is now time to do something new."

He also revealed he had already turned down a coaching job in Bahrain but would not be drawn on any further speculation.

Richmond added: "Chris does have the man he wants in mind to replace Terry and that should develop over the next couple of days. The position with Stuart McCall being offered the assistant boss's role is separate and we will discuss it with Stuart next week."

Speculation in Sheffield has linked Yorath with a switch to Hillsborough to work alongside Jewell and Peter Shreeves.

Owls coach Chris Waddle walked out when Jewell was appointed while Shreeves, who worked with Yorath with the Welsh squad, has signed a three-month contract.
