Plans for a pilot scheme aimed at dealing with discarded needles have been unveiled.
Bradford Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership is working with the city's Drug and Alcohol Action team.
The scheme, known as Bin the Pin, will be piloted in six districts including Shipley, Keighley and the city centre.
Drug users will be encouraged to put needles in the metal bins which can also be used by diabetics, members of the public who find needles out in the open or those who normally dispose of them in household rubbish.
The bins will be fixed securely to the ground in an accessible area and be available 24 hours a day. Bradford Council Cleansing Department will empty them on a regular basis.
The idea came from a scheme already set up in Kirklees which collected around 15,000 needles last year.
Alison Richards, Drug and Alcohol Action Team Co-ordinator, said: "It is not expected that this will solve the problem of discarded needles. It is only a small part of the whole drug strategy which aims at educating young people on the dangers of drug misuse and encourages those who have had problems into treatment."
The scheme will be discussed at Shipley Central/Nab Wood neighbourhood forum tonight in Shipley Library, 7.30pm.
