Residents on a Bradford estate claim they will have to take two buses to get to doctors, school and work which are only a couple of miles away.

People living in parts of Ravenscliffe will have to change at Greengates to get to the nearby Thorpe Edge because they will lose the circular service between the estates. Idle residents have been told they their services to Leeds are going to be axed, and there is also an outcry over services in Fagley and Eccleshill which will be changed.

A public meeting will be held at Eccleshill Upper School on July 12 at 7pm to discuss the changes - part of a district-wide shake up by First Bradford with a new timetable scheduled to begin on July 23.

The company which is about to bring more than 80 super buses into the district at a cost of about £10 million says it is rationalising its services.

First Bradford operations director Khadim Hussain said: "There is a reorganisation and restructuring, but it isn't cuts. There will be no fares increase and overall there will be a big improvement. Ultimately there will be more services."

But Susan Brooks who will have to travel to her job in Thorpe Edge from Ravenscliffe said: "Thorpe Edge is only ten minutes away in a car. It is horrendous for people."

Gareth Logan, chairman of Thorpe Edge Forum and the High Rise Tenants and Residents Association, said: "It's just not good enough for the people of Bradford."

Association vice-chairman Peter Hatherell said: "This was done without consultation and it is absolutely atrocious. It's not just about Ravenscliffe and Thorpe Edge. We want to hear from anyone in the district who is affected."
