Keighley's centenarians are invited to tea at City Hall to celebrate the 100th birthday of the Queen Mother, at the invitation of the Lord Mayor and leader of the council.
The district's oldest citizens will be treated to a special tea on Friday, 4 August, when the Lord Mayor, Cllr John Stanley King and council leader Councillor Margaret Eaton, host a party in honour of the Queen Mother.
The tea-time treat, complete with music from a string quartet, is open to anyone in the Bradford district who is due to celebrate his or her 100th birthday this year, or who has already celebrated their century.
The party, which will be held in the Banqueting Hall at the splendid Gothic City Hall, is the idea of Cllr Eaton. She said: "We are delighted to host this very special tea at City Hall to honour the Queen Mother on her birthday and also Bradford's centenarian citizens.
"It will give me great pleasure to meet our oldest residents, who are really young people who have lived a long time. I am sure we will have a lot to talk about."
Cllr King says: "I am looking forward to taking tea with my elders to celebrate the 100th birthday of the Queen Mother. I will also be hoping to pick up a few tips on how to stay young -looking from those who have been around long enough to know."
A birthday book will also be available for residents to write birthday messages for the Queen Mother at City Hall and in area offices throughout the district from 31 July to 25 August.
If you are a centenarian (or beyond), or know someone who is who would like to be included in the tea party, please contact Loraine Shaw, Civic Affairs Manager at Bradford Council on 01274 752276, or write to her at Civic Affairs Office, 2nd Floor, City Hall, Bradford, BD1 1HY.
