FOR the second time in three years, Wilf Wall of Grassington took the Skipton Veterans crown last Friday at Oakworth.

In a top quality field, which included last year's winner and young veteran, Arnie Ripley, Wall beat Eddie Boocock from Sutton in the final. Beaten semi-finalists were Arnie Ripley of Broughton Road and Herbert Shaw of Haworth.

The Yorkshire Dales Creamery sponsored Skipton Merit was drawn last Sunday and will be played on Thursday 13 July on the following greens, 2 qualifiers from each green, start/scratch 1.30pm-

The Second round of the Clarkson Cup will be published in next week's Craven Herald.

This Sunday, the third qualifying dates of the Rycroft and Tetley Devonshire Classics will be played. The Rycroft starts at 11.30am, the Tetley Devonshire Classic at 7pm. Players to watch out for in the Rycroft include last year's winner, Graham Wilson, previous winners Colin Jeffrey and Howard Whiteley (who also appears in the Tetley Devonshire Classic) and the evergreen David Scott.

The Tetley Devonshire Classic has just two locals - Raymond Horsman and David Jacques.

With nearly half the season gone, the secretary is still eagerly awaiting any thoughts from clubs about how the league programme should be constructed next year following the vote to revert back to three divisions.

To date there has been only one formal response. As set out in the letter to all clubs, there are significant logistical problems to be overcome if the number of teams stays the same as in the current season and the thoughts of all clubs would be appreciated.
