Dougie Lampkin's Radson Montesa sported next year' bright red colour scheme on it's plastic mudguards and covering panels at the penultimate round of the F.I.M. world trials championship at Pila in Italy.

The new colours did not help on Saturday where the main backdrop was Mount Blanc and where the newly-crowned champion went down fighting for the third time this year.

He slipped to fifth place on the Saturday as Spaniard Albert Cabestany toppled front runners Takahisa Fujinami and Marc Colomer.

Things returned to normal on Sunday when Dougie cruised round the "too-easy" course, and lost just three marks.

The trial was certainly different, spectators had to take two ski-lifts to get to the course.

Steve Colley suffered a major incident on Saturday when he crashed just after starting the trial. The Manxman came off his Team Tarres Gas Gas headfirst onto rocks and was taken to the event medical centre for a full check and X Rays on his neck. He resumed the trial with a severe headache, taking ninth place.

This weekend the Allan Jefferies Trophy trial takes place at Halton Gill on Sunday but many of the top Yorkshire riders including Dougie Lampkin, his cousin James, Dan and Ben will be down in the West Country at the British championship qualifier at Lustleigh.
