PETER DOWGILL carried home his own trophy after winning the Valley Dandicap Doubles competition at Cross Hills last weekend.

Peter, of Bankfield Guest House, sponsored the event through his business, and enjoyed success on his home green after teaming up with Hilary Seward.

They edged out rising Cross Roads stars Scott Wilkins and junior Paul Haigh 21-19 in a very close fought contest, which was played in wet conditions.

Hillary also played an important part in the victory and works hard for the club itself where her late father, Harry Robinson, also did sterling worked for years as secretary.

The Valley continues its events with the Trebles, sponsored by DFPS Transport, on Sunday at Denholme, starting at 9.30

Sunday also sees the continuation of the John Rycroft Trophy at the Broughton Road Club and the Devon Classic in the evening at Skipton featuring local stars. the next round is on July 23. The qualifying rounds of the Skipton Merit are on Thursday.

The Yorkshire Cup continues on Saturday when Cross Rods meet old Halifax rivals Clayton in the last sixteen.

Cross Hills and Sutton have reached a similar position in the Supplementary event, the Henry Taylor Cup. Cross Hills meet Spen Victoria B which should be a tough match.

Top local bowler jamie Cunningham has qualified for the national finals of the Civil Service competition.

Roy Littlewood and Barbara Rowan did well to rach the semi-finals of the Halifax Mixed Pars, losing to the eventual winners.
