A MUCH-anticipated water
feature could soon be in full flow in Burley-in-Wharfedale.
The fountain, which will be the icing on the cake of a village Millennium project, has been given the go-ahead by the Environment Agency.
The fountain, which is being installed at the village green by Burley Community Council, will be operated using a ram pump.
This will give intermittent flow, according to the levels of the beck, which will supply the water.
John Gundry, vice chairman of the community council, said that the Environment Agency had given them a verbal agreement that they could abstract the
necessary water, which will eventually flow back into the beck.
The council are now awaiting the final green light from the housing department of Bradford City Council, who own the land, before the fountain can be installed.
Mr Gundry said: "Much of our endeavour these last four years has been on the village green and we wanted some feature as a full stop.
"The original idea was a duck pond but there was a fair amount of doubt about the safety of it. We finally decided on the fountain. It will be good to see it installed."
