HOPES look set to be dashed in Burley-in-Wharfedale after a planning bid was given the green light by Bradford City Council.
The council took the resolution to back the application by Burley Developments Ltd to build 145 dwellings at Scalebor Park Hospital, subject to certain conditions.
Many voices had been raised in protest in the village against the
development at the former mental
hospital.
But the development, which will include 20 homes in the former
hospital and 125 new houses on site, looks almost certain to go ahead.
Peter Bridgeman, of Shipley Planning Office said: "It was approved by the committee but it was subject
to a section 106 to tie up some things that could be covered by planning
conditions.
"Once the legal agreement is tied up, the permission will be issued."
The developers must satisfy certain conditions before the final seal will be placed on the agreement.
Conditions to be met include Highways department issues and
traffic calming measures.
A satisfactory programme for the protection and management of
woodland, which surrounds the former hospital, also has to be addressed.
Also on the agenda is the
financial contribution to affordable housing in the village.
In addition, a children's play area has to be installed on site as well as the maintenance of playing fields and public access to them.
