THE FATHER of a joiner seriously injured in a crash with a stolen car says his son is lucky to be alive.
Self-employed joiner David Mounsey, 30, of Guiseley, is being treated at Bradford Royal Infirmary for a shattered pelvis following the crash in Bradford last week.
He was trapped in his car for 40 minutes in the early hours of last Thursday while firefighters tried to free him. He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital.
The accident took place near the junction of Killinghall Road and Leeds Old Road, Bradford Moor. when a stolen red Honda Accord was in collision with Mr Mounsey's red Ford Sierra.
Police made a statement saying the car was not being chased when it crashed.
Now father John Mounsey, of Shaw Lane Gardens, Guiseley, says he does not know how long it will take for his son to recover.
He said: "He's lucky to be alive and he's lucky enough not to be paralysed. He's had complications from his back and he's being treated for a chest infection. He has to lie flat and he can hardly move by himself."
He said his son may be moved to another hospital for more specialised orthopaedic treatment.
Mr Mounsey last week condemned the drivers of the stolen car, saying his son's accident had come as a shock to him.
He said: "His mother died just last year from a brain tumour and now this has happened."
Mr Mounsey was due to go away on holiday this month, but does not know if he will be able to go. He has been visiting his son in hospital every day. He said friends and family had been very supportive.
l Two men have been arrested and questioned over the incident, and released on police bail.
