A CONTEMPORAY bar, which is expected to change nights out in Skipton forever, was opened at the weekend.
Y on Cavendish Street served its first pints to a select group of guests on Friday and opened its doors to its waiting public on Saturday.
The bar has everything that the older traditional pubs do not, including loud, bright colours and chrome fittings, dance and jazz nights and waitress service for drinks.
Partner Dave Rogers said the opening nights were busy and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. "They were all saying that this is just what Skipton needed," he added.
Mr Rogers said the bar had been built long so that people would not have to queue for drinks and that there would always be plenty of staff serving.
He added that they had even introduced a waitress service for drinks. "We have a great team of staff waiting to look after people," said Mr Rogers.
The bar will be open Thursday to Sundays from 11am to 11pm. On Friday and Saturday evenings a DJ will play dance music and on Sunday afternoons jazz music will bring the weekend to a close.
There is a full menu where customers can get a light snack or a full meal on a lunchtime or evening, and the bar may be available for hire during the week in the future.
The bar has been constructed in a building owned by Tapsell and West Carpets on Cavendish Street, which was formerly the old gas board depot before it was converted to retail use.
