Oakworth'S march to a League and Cup double continued when they saw off Pendle Forest at the weekend.
The Fence side found runs hard to come by and only a swashbuckling 35 by Phil Swarbrick got them to 142. Grahan Rankin bowled a tight line to finish with 4-32 backed up by Jeff Inman who took 3-20 with his leg spin.
The home side took full advantagde after Lee Hollingworth was missed in the slips when he had scored only a handful of runs. He went on to score a match-winning 81 not out and together with Robert Hopkinson (46no) put on 107 as victory was secured by eight wickets.
Long Lee jumped into fourth spot following their 32-run victory over Haworth in a high scoring game.
The Keighley side made 214-6 with Paul Wilkinson scoring 52, James Wilkinson 46 and Jan Haider 44no. The Bronte side made a valiant effort to reach their target with Jamie Rowell 52 and Adrian Ratcliffe 50, but fell short thanks to 5-36 by Matthew Taylor.
Embsay were not firing on all cylinders at Sutton but came away with the spoils. They struggled to 140-6 with Zulfar Iqbal making 45 and Edward Tiffany 41 as Justin Holdsworth took all six wickets for 56. In reply the homesters were going reasonably well at 89-3 before the wheels dropped off and they were dismissed for 100.
Thornton encountered few problems at Barrowford. Openers David Harrison, 68, and Kevin Pollard, 35, set the foundation for a score of 185. Then Mark Paxton 6-24, and Stephen Lodge 3-26 ripped the heart out of the Bull Holme side who capitulated for 58.
Bradley were restricted to 130 at Sandylands with James Heseltine top scoring with 43 as Shaun Williamson bowled through to finish with 7-58. However this proved to be enough as Skipton CI were dismissed for 120, top scorer being Mark Worthington with 39 as Heseltine followed his good work with the bat to finish with 4-32.
Cowling appear to have found the winning habit, although it may not be enough to save them from relegation. They had Carleton back in the hut for 158-8, Steve Carling making 71 as Batty took 5-65. Skipper Steve Mitchell guided his side to the points by five wickets with a fine knock of 90 not out.
Haworth West End are looking a good bet for promotion after the results went their way. They travel to Swinden Fields and blasted Jimmy Nelson's apart. The home side were dismissed for a paltry 20 with Jason Bilbrough taking 7-7, which included a hat-trick. The Bronte side lost one wicket reaching their target.
Second placed Denholme suffered their fourth defeat of the season at home to Gargrave. The visitors were indebted to a fine knock of 102no by veteran Ernie Moorhouse, as they posted 201-6.
The home side were dismissed for 160 with Chris Flood taking 5-36 and Rod Moon 5-50. Only skipper and opener David Wear with 69 offered much resistance.
Ingrow St John's closed the gap to two points behind Denholme after they beat Cononley at Street Lane. Colin Bottomley had a fine game for the Saints. He scored 48 as they made a modest 129, then followed with 5-23 as the visitors were brushed aside for 62. Z Iqbal took 5-33 for ther Saints and A Starkey 6-62 for the Cononley.
There was a run feast at Glusburn where visitors Chatburn crashed 265-5, with Richard Shovelton scoring 88, Ted Topham 59 and Neil Cartledge 55 not out. Not to be outdone the 10-man homesters roared back to snatch the points by five wickets. Darren Ideson scored a sparkling 107 and D Haykin 79 - the pair putting on 158 for the second wicket.
Foulridge's Mohammed Nawaz was another star performer with both bat and ball. He made 57 as the Noyna side made 163-9 at Bull Holme. Evergreen Bernard Swarbrick chipping in with 35 as Peter Pickup bowled through to finish with 8-64. Nawaz then took 7-28 as Barnoldswick III were dismissed for 96.
Matthew Cox scored a brilliant 152no as Airedale made a stunning 240-1 at Rose Cottage. He shared an opening stand of 223 with Phil Loftus who chipped in with 62. Keighley Tech's reply was restricted to 70 as Ben Guest claimed 7-29.
Third Division leaders Embsay saw their lead at the top extended to 11 points following their win over Sutton and Bradley's demise at the hands of Skipton CI.
The Shires Lane side had Sutton reeling at 16-8, before skipper Alan Robinson changed his bowling to give the tea ladies time to get things ready. Youngster B Airey took advantage to score 21 to help the score to 50. Ian Robson finished with 5-1 off 7.1 overs and Neil Robson 4-19. Brian Hodgson with 37no led the leaders to a 10 wicket victory.
Skipton CI have the uncanny knack of upsetting sides near the top of the league. Having put the skids under the leaders recently they travel to Bradley and dismissed them for 127 with Nigel Bibby scoring 54 as the dynamic duo John Stuttard and Steve Davidson took 5-62 and 4-52 respectively. Matthew Wilson then stroked a fine 85 not out to lead the visitors to a stunning eight wicket win.
Thornton cling on to third spot despite going down to visitors Barrowford. The Bull Holme side went first and made 165-6 with Peter Wellman scoring 49. The West Cravenners were then shot out for 114 with Jeff Tipler making 42; to go with his earlier 3-46 as A Foster took 5-22.
Glusburn are fourth, on run rate ahead of Barrowford, as they too suffered a reversal at the hands of Chatburn. M Pearce with 53 helped the Ribblesdale side to a modest 112. Then Geoff Lambert with 7-10 shot the visitors out for 87.
Oakworth's travels to Fence proved to be fruitful as the won by 88 runs. D Duffy scored a fine 106no as the Cure Hill side made 195. Andy Dawson then claimed 4-23 as Pendle Forest were dismissed for 107. Skipper Mark Vickerman scored 38. Up at Haworth, Long Lee made 140 in their innings, three wickets each for Miss Gemma Rishworth, Dean Balderstone and Craig Ogden. However this was just enough as the Bronte side closed on 132-8 in reply.
Fourth Division leaders Cowling encountered few problems on their travels to Carleton. The Ramper Park side were restricted to 142-4 with Neville Allan top scoring with 58. In the reply an opening stand of 122 by David Sutton 65, and Nick Ridding 55 formed the foundation Cowling's easy eight wicket win.
Pendle Forest III took advantage of Haworth West End's inactivity to leap frog over them into second place. I Javid, 52, and Peter Jones, 51, helped them to an impressive 192-6 up at Foulridge. The Noyna side could only manage 105 in reply.
Denholme seconds were 'old manned' on their travels to Gargrave. Chasing a target of 151-5 they were dismissed for 106 by the vastly experienced Ray Jones who took 6-45 and Martin Foulds 4-18. In the homesters innings another 'golden oldie' Martyn Cox made 78.
Keighley TC will want to forget their travels to Airedale. They had seen the home side rattle up 171 with A Loftus making 73. He followed this with 7-7 in seven overs as the visitors were shot out for a paltry 14. D Woolley took 7-56 in 16 overs for the losers.
Ingrow St John's received three points when Cononley were unable to raise a side.
