Riddlesden defied the odds to win the Bradford Scratch League's fourth division championship with a storming 8-0 win over close rivals Hollins Hall on Friday.
The team of Michael Scarborough, Tony Heap, Andrew Barraclough and Brian Dean went out knowing that anything less than an 8-0 whitewash would mean they didn't even gain promotion - they had 52 points but Hollins Hall and West Bowling both already had 60. Bowling had completed their matches and had to wait for the result they feared, which left them missing out on promotion.
All three teams finished on 60 points, but Riddlesden were champions for the first time and Hollins Hall were promoted in second place. The three teams were separated on the number of games won.
Silsden snatched the honours in the battle of the relegated teams in the first division on Friday. The visitors gained an excellent 5-3 win at Keighley in the final match of the season, but still finished a point behind them at the bottom of the league. Northcliffe finished as champions, 10 points clear of defending champions Baildon.
Woodhall Hills took the second division title, eight points ahead of Bradford Moor, with Shipley and Fulneck relegated.
In the third division Branshaw ended the season with a 6-2 win over Headley to finish above them in third place, while Skipton were relegated along with Ben Rhydding. South Bradford won 8-0 against Clayton to finish top, a point ahead of Calverley, who won 8-0 against Ben Rhydding.
