Farsley Celtic raced to an 8-1 win over Bay Horse in a testimonial match at Throstle Nest on a day when football played second fiddle.
The fixture had been arranged to benefit the family of Kevin Speight, the landlord of the local Bay Horse pub killed while supporting Leeds United in their UEFA Cup semi-final against Galatasaray in Turkey last season.
Hundreds of his fellow Leeds supporters and many local people turned out to pay their respects and raise money for his family. His son George was in Celtic's Under-eight side last season and wants to continue with the club.
Eugene Lacy, who was running Celtic's side yesterday in the absence of first team manager Martin Haresign and his assistant Steve Learoyd, was moved by the event.
He said. "The day was all about the Speights.
"It was highly charged with emotions.
"There were loads of Leeds fans here and it seemed like half of Farsley as well.
"We had a raffle and an auction in the club after the game. One lad came all the way from Birmingham. He bid well over the top for a meal for two and then gave it away.
"Things like that were going on all day."
Celtic's squad included all their available first-teamers and most of their new signings. One of the new men - former Guiseley centre back Paul Stevenson - was not available. He had chosen to play for the Bay Horse side.
