A newly-wed Bradford couple got to re-enact their marriage in front of millions on Channel 4's The Big Breakfast.

Jason and Jayne Townend, of Bankfoot, were enjoying a short honeymoon in Great Yarmouth when they were asked to star in the show.

Presenter Richard Bacon joined the couple, who were married last Saturday and held their reception at the Bradford Bulls' stadium, as they were having lunch in a caf.

Within a few hours they were marching down an 'aisle' of holiday-makers on the pier front in a surreal recreation of their big day.

Mr Townend, a 31-year-old mechanic, said: "He had just come in with his cameraman and driver for his pie, chips and peas and got talking to us, and we said we were on honeymoon.

"As we left the caf he ran after us and asked if we would like to appear on the show - the next thing we knew we were reconstructing the wedding in front of what seemed like hundreds of people!"

The broadcast, which showed Mr Townend going down on one knee to propose to his wife for the second time, was broadcast on Channel 4 on Wednesday morning.

Luckily, friends had taped the programme so the Townends could relive their moment of matrimonial fame when they returned to Bradford.

A spokeswoman for The Big Breakfast, which attracts about five million viewers a week, said: "They were really good fun and up for a laugh after we accosted them in a caf.

"It was especially good for them to do it as they were on their honeymoon."

Already fans of the show, Mr and Mrs Townend were also given a signed photograph of Mr Bacon, who they described as "a really nice, normal guy".

"It was excellent. We were both taken aback a bit at first and it was quite a shock to come across him on honeymoon," said Mr Townend.

"Afterwards we rode up and down the streets of Great Yarmouth in their chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce for an hour and a half - they certainly looked after us!
