A mum had to undergo plastic surgery to her face after she was slashed with a knife on her doorstep, a Court heard.

Cheryl Atkins also suffered a cut to her right arm when she was confronted by three men all armed with knives last October.

She told a jury at Bradford Crown Court yesterday that the attack on her took place after she failed to repay a £5 debt to Mohammed Sajid Khan.

Miss Atkins, whose two-year-old son and boyfriend were in her Bradford flat at the time of the incident, said she had seen Khan earlier that day and told him that she did not have the money.

That night she answered knocking at her door and was confronted by three men including Khan and he again asked her about the money.

She claimed that one of the men tried to force his way into her flat and as she pushed him out he deliberately stubbed out a lighted cigarette on her arm.

She alleged that Khan then struck at her with the knife causing injuries to her eye, left cheek and right arm.

Khan, 22, of Hapsburgh Court, Park Road, Bradford, has denied a charge of unlawfully wounding Miss Atkins with intent to cause her grievous bodily harm. His brother, Aftab Khan, 28, of Back Giles Street North, Little Horton, Bradford, has pleaded not guilty to a similar allegation.

Miss Atkins described how when she got into an ambulance Aftab Khan was already sat in it after having suffered an injury himself. When she arrived at Bradford Royal Infirmary she told a police officer that he had been involved in the attack on her.

Miss Atkins told the court that she spent three days in hospital following the attack and underwent plastic surgery for her injuries. She said she was now unable to move her right arm fully as a result of the cut she suffered to it.

The trial continues.
