Keighley PHOENIX got their season off to a nightmare start on Wednesday.
They had to switch the opening day fixture to Brighouse Town because the Marley changing rooms were not ready for use, and went down to a 6-0 defeat. They were just 1-0 down at the break, but then the onslaught began.
The club has landed a new shirt deal with local Keighley firm Carta Sport, the one year deal will see the club wearing Carta Sport shirts with the name 'MASITA' across the front. Carta Sport is the main distributor for 'MASITA' sportswear in the UK and both parties are delighted with the deal.
Carta Sport Managing Director Howard Carter said: "I have looked out for Keighley Phoenix's results last season and following their success we are very pleased that our exclusive brand MASITA, which endorses a range of tracksuits, rain jackets, coach jackets, bags and football shirts will be sponsoring Keighley Phoenix for this coming season."
Keighley Phoenix chairman Roy Mason added: "This is a great deal for Keighley Phoenix and we are very pleased to be involved with such a successful local company as Carta Sport."
The club will retain it's traditional black and white stripe shirts and black shorts, however the socks will move back to black this season instead of the red ones they have worn for the past two years.
Silsden got off to a brighter start in the first division with Lee Rielly scoring a hat-trick in their 3-1 victory over Farnley.
Keighley Shamrocks went down to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Halifax Irish, but goals from Dave Hannan and Mick Dowse gave hope of brighter things to come.
Steeton fought back against Salts in Division Two and just missed out on a share of the points as they went down 3-2 with goals from James Gill and D Whiteoak.
This weekend Keighley Phoenix have to switch their game again, playing Hemsworth Miners Welfare at Hemsworth in the Bob Wedgeworth Memorial Trophy semi final.
Keighley Shamrocks are at home to Ventus/Yeadon in Division One and Silsden take on Dudley Hill Athletic. Steeton are also at home to Rawdon Old Boys in Division Two.
