Skipton Athletics Club's stock of county vests continues to grow.
The eleventh-hour call-up of Emma Shaw to represent Yorkshire at Sunday's inter-county championships means that the local club will have two youngsters on duty.
Shaw, who won the silver in the Yorkshire Championships earlier in the summer, gets her chance in the shot-put because Alex Merrill of Skyrac AC has elected to concentrate on the discus rather than enter both throwing events.
With Rebecca Shepherd already booked for the Under 17 discus at the Cudworth meet, Skipton's tally of Yorkshire vests now reaches 13, an impressive tally for a small club and a glowing tribute to the coaches who have helped the athletes along the way.
Local athletes continued to shine in the most recent round of the Seven Series West Yorkshire Track & Field League meeting at Cleckheaton.
Emma Shaw predictably won the Under 15 shot and there was a silver for all-rounder Michael Longden in the Under 13 800 metres, where he was edged out in a thrilling finish by age-group champion Alastair Brownlee from Bingley.
There was also a very promising debut from Amy Fawcett, who won the Under 13 80 metres 'B' race in a time only fractions outside that of the Jessica Taylor, winner of the 'A' race.
Amy was therefore second fastest overall and added to her laurels by throwing over 23 metres to take third place in the Under 13 discus.
At Under 15 level, Emma Wood came away a very satisfied competitor when she posted a new personal best by some three metres when she threw 27.14 for a fine third place in the discus.
Confirming that the versatility and breadth of Skipton AC remains intact, the contingent of athletes in action at England Junior Fell Racing Championships at Sedbergh also impressed.
Sarah Dugdale spearheaded the Skipton challenge when she clinched runner-up spot in the Under 20 section behind outstanding international Kate Bailey of Staffordshire. She added a win in the final race to her victory at Rivington Pike in the previous round.
