A Bradford musician has offered to repair a street light himself after the wheels of his wife's car were stolen and replaced with bricks.
Alan Murch and his wife Angela, of Low Moor, claim the tyres of their T-reg Fiesta would never have disappeared if the bulb in the lamp outside their terrace house had been replaced.
The couple are furious no action has been taken by Bradford Council despite the fault being reported for almost six months.
The last straw came when the couple awoke to find the wheels had gone.
Mr Murch said the car, which his wife had only had for five weeks, had been fitted with locking wheel nuts and an alarm.
He said: "They've done a professional job and I'm sure if the street light had been on, it would have been a deterrent.
"The street light here is necessary for people's safety. At night time, it's pitch black. If someone's walking, they could fall and break their ankle or get mugged. Two weeks ago I phoned up the Council and asked if they could send me a bulb which I could fit myself."
The street light was positioned only 15 feet away from the vehicle and would have illuminated the car completely, he added.
Saxophones valued at more than £8,000 were stolen from the couple's council property three months ago.
A highway spokesman for Bradford Council said they were not aware of a problem with the lamp.
He said: "We have now arranged for it to be inspected as soon as possible to establish what work needs to be done.
"In the meantime, we would like to apologise to Mr Murch as it appears that his complaint has not been passed on to the street lighting unit."
