Nick Trepka, of Wilmer Road, Heaton, was celebrating after scoring one of the fifth highest marks for Design & Technology in the country.
The former Bradford Grammar School pupil achieved A grades in physics, music technology, and design technology, and a B in mathematics but his mark for design technology was described by the examination board as "outstanding."
Nick, 18, who is planning to take a year out, said: "I wasn't really expecting to do that well. It's a nice surprise. To be honest I'm more thrilled about getting an A in music technology because to do well in that subject is quite hard."
Nick will travel to India in his gap year and then make up his mind about his future.
He is concentrating at the moment on music and has built an amateur studio at his home.
"I'll be able to start producing CDs soon and I'm considering getting in touch with record companies," he said.
He describes his influences as Chemical Brothers, Foofighters, Prodigy and Orbital.
