Detectives investigating a fatal car crash in the city were today questioning two men on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The pair, aged 19 and 23, were arrested yesterday and are being held at Bradford Central police station.

Police have confirmed the identity of the man who died in the horrific smash on Midland Road, Bradford, as 20-year-old Isfan Ali.

Dozens of mourners visited his home in Jasmin Terrace, Girlington, Bradford, last night to pay their respects.

His distraught family said they did not want to comment on the incident, which left three other people injured.

Residents in Midland Road said they feared the fatal crash, which happened shortly at around midnight on Tuesday, could have been the result of a race involving a Honda Civic and a BMW.

One of the cars is believed to have crashed into the back of a Rover coupe. The Honda then careered into a wall and into a red Honda Integra which was parked in Midland Road.

The BMW which sustained severe damage to its offside front wing was abandoned in nearby Nesfield Street.

Firefighters battled to free Mr Ali from underneath the Civic, but he died later at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Police sealed off the area for more than 12 hours while inquiries were carried out at the scene.

A West Yorkshire police spokesman said: "Two men, aged 19 and 23, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. They are still in custody and inquiries are ongoing."
