Machetes and baseball bats were recovered by police after a major street brawl between Bradford neighbours left a number of people in hospital.

Scores of police officers were called to Aberdeen Terrace in Lidget Green, after concerned residents called them to sort out the neighbours at war.

Wounded members from two families were taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary after the dispute last night, with three detained overnight for treatment to cuts and bruises.

Detective Inspector Sheridan Moore, from Toller Lane police, leading the investigation, said the flare-up spiralled out of control after a disagreement between two families.

He said: "It would appear this incident is the result of a dispute between two families who live in the area.

"A number of police officers were called to the address by residents at about 10pm last night, by which time the dispute had tailed off.

"It seems as if the incident started within one of the houses and then spilled out on to the street.

"A number of implements were recovered from the scene which are thought to have been used during the disturbance.

"None of the officers were injured and no other members of the public were involved. The dispute was contained to the two families involved."

He said so far officers believed around seven people were involved in the actual fighting, although this number could rise.

DI Moore added: "A number of people from both families were treated at Bradford Royal Infirmary for cuts and bruises and three people detained overnight, but none of their injuries are life threatening."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Toller Lane CID on 01274 376285 or the Toller Lane front desk on 01274 376259.

Seven people were arrested in connection with the incident and have been detained in custody while police make further inquiries.
