Sutton and Cross Hills residents have triumphed in their battle against a mobile phone mast.
Craven council planning officers rejected BT Cellnet's plans to install a mast in the field of W & J R Thompson's Woodturners Ltd, off Holme Lane, Sutton.
Planning officer Richard Preston says the mast was turned down on two counts; its incongruity with its surroundings and people's perception of harm.
He explains: "It was the fact that we have on-going public concern over the school and residents, and we felt that to be material consideration."
Anna Duggan, of Holmroyd Avenue, who campaigned against the mast and staged a one-day protest last week, met the news with cautious relief.
"Many thanks to everyone who objected, because that's what's won the day," she says.
But she felt that the planning authority should look at ways of improving notification of planning proposals.
