CROSS ROADS retained the Valley Cup despite a brave fight by Second Division side Highfield.
The Roadies A team flourished on the Oakworth green, making an excellent start through Mick Walsh and Les Foster, but a spirited comeback led by league secretary Jim Cormican reduced the winning margin to only a few points, Neil Hargreaves clinching a final match success.
The Supplementary Cup Final at Whins Wood resulted in an easy win for Cross Hills A who comfortably defeated Denholme B thanks to Phillip Dowgill's good early effort. Denholme only recorded one winner.
Colin Jeffrey and Trevor Hargreaves continued their marvellous run in the Skipton doubles event at Cononley when they won the summer event to go with their spring title, they narrowly beat Andy Utley and Stephen Lofthouse (Devon) without being at their best. Losing semi-finalists were David Jacques and Mick Bastow together with Roy Sanderson and Ben Ridding.
Yorkshire Parks saw their run in the County Championships come to an end with a shock semi-final defeat by Fylde. The away squad at Freckleton lost by over 30 points and the home team also lost narrowly, by three points. Several leading players were missing in the away leg and the whole set-up has been changed for next season as the County organisation comes under urgent review with Yorkshire Parks under threat.
Collin Jeffrey and Garry Foster have reached the sixth round of the Waterloo Sweeps Handicap after good efforts in the third and fourth rounds, together with a bye in the fifth round.
Haworth have dropped from top spot in the Bradford League Division four after some poor away results, despite good wins by Neville Lund, Ben Ridding and Roy Sanderson.
Keighley a still had Division One of the Skipton League and are almost home and dry despite the chase from Silsden A. Keighley B and Silsden PF A remain in the relegation zone, but there is due to a be a reorganisation of the league structure at the end of the season.
Cross Hills A have virtually secured the Second Division title while Silsden PF B, Sutton B and Oakworth are fighting against relegation. Lund B and Steeton A chase second place in Division three behind Whinfield B in Division Three.
The Valley Merit is to be held at Bradshaw Park on Sunday at 9.30 with a disappointing entry of 20 going to post. The draw is:
9.30am: L Foster v N Hargreaves, L Buxton v L Hutchinson, R Hargreaves v R Littlewood, G Lomax v J Copperwaite.
10.15: P Cartwright v M Walsh, S Pickles v G Foster, J Cormican v A Downing, R Cowman v W Hobson.
11.00: D Hobson v T Sexton, S Copperwaite v A McClean.
The Clarkson Cup semi-finals on September 5 feature Davon A v Silden A at Colne Legion and Foulridge A v Keighley A at Colne Cricket Club. The final is on September 7.
Also in Skipton the Dick Keighley event starts on Tuesday and runs until Thursday.
