AFTER slipping to defeat in their opening match of the sdeason, Keighley Phoenix crashed out of the Bob Wedgeworth Memorial Trophy when they went down 5-0 to Hemsworth on Saturday.
They have still to score their first goal of theseason after being beaten 1-0 by Wibsey in the league on Wednesday evening.
In Divison One Keighley Shamrocks beat Ventus/Yeadon. 4-2 with goals from G Finn, G Thompson, S Brown and D Harewood, and Silsden were also on the victory trail with a 2-0 victory over Dudley Hill Athletic with goals from B Pearson and Ryan Hook.
Steeton secured a 2-2 draw with Rawdon Old Boys thanks to goals from J Whiteoak and S Barker.
n A total of 142 teams are set to start the season in the Craven, Aire and Wharfe Junior League with the development of coaching paying big dividends.
Last season the league offered more training opportunities than any other in the county with over 100 people attending Junior Team Manager courses and it is now a condition of running a team that the manaer or assistant has attended a coaching course of some kind, including the ability to give first aid.
n The Keybury Alarms Youth League is also preparing to kick off with over 170 teams from Under-7 to Under-11 age groups.
