Bradford Park Avenue joined Witton Albion on ten points from four games to share third place in the UniBond Division One with a 1-0 home victory over former Football League rivals Workington at Horsfall Stadium last night.

The scoreline - suggesting it was a narrow victory-- paints only half the picture as Trevor Storton's men created a whole host of chances and hit the woodwork twice.

Avenue went into the match with injury problems but had Micky Thompson back at the heart of defence and ex-Gainsborough Trinity man Grant Morrow on the bench for the first time.

The home side started well and Jason Maxwell had a header cleared off the line in only the fourth minute. Midway through the half Chris Dolby was brought down and Wayne Benn's free kick cleared the wall but drifted just wide of the angle.

The all important strike came on the half hour. A Martin James corner was cleared only as far as Benn, his 12-yard shot was charged down but Thompson centered and Maxwell headed home from six yards.

In the second half Dave Donaldson crashed a header against the upright from Dean Calcutt's cross and substitute Morrow hit a shot against a post from a through ball by Maxwell.

Into injury time Phil Denney shot inches wide as Avenue failed to add to their lead but still claimed all three points.

Thackley won their first home game of the season in the Northern Counties East Premier Division when two goals from Craig Delahaye saw off the challenge of Garforth Town.

The midfielder stabbed home the first in the 16th minute but the visitors levelled through Dave Henry. Delahaye wrapped up the scoring with a spectacular drive just before half time when Andy Pattison crossed from Dave Cunningham's pass down the flank.
