Bradford City are likely to be without defender Andy O'Brien for eight weeks after the 21-year-old defender broke a collarbone on the goalless draw against Leicester.

Manager Chris Hutchings said: "If he healed any sooner it would be great, but the normal length of time for collarbones is six to eight weeks.

"He fell heavily. Unfortunately, these things happen in football. I hope it heals quickly, but at first he will be doing light training with no contact. He did very well last season and he started this season well."

O'Brien's it means he also has to miss out on Republic of Ireland Under-21s European Championship qualifier in Holland on Friday.

City have cover in def-ence with Peter Atherton who has been playing at right back a natural central defender while Andy Myers did well in that position when he replaced O'Brien after nine minutes of the Leicester match.

They also have Ashley Westwood on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.

Westwood opened the scoring for Wednesday after only two minutes in last night's 1-1 draw against Blackburn at Hillsborough.

After the match, former City manager Paul Jewell, now in charge at Wednesday said he hoped to complete a permanent deal for the 23-year-old player in the next two weeks.

Whether City agree to that in view of O'Brien's injury remains to be seen.

player Sergio Campolo after a trial. The former Perugia player played for the reserves against Manchester United last Thursday, but Hutchings said: "He has gone back to Italy.

"He is a very neat and tidy player, but we feel he is no better than what we have got and we have got to sign players who are better than those who are here."

City are giving a trial to a Peruvian international midfield player, Antony Matellini. Hutchings said: "He has been training with the squad and we are trying to obtain international clearance for him to play for the reserves against Sheffield Wednesday at Valley Parade tonight."

The squad includes new signing, striker Ashley Ward, but he was sent home from training yesterday because he was suffering from a virus and he may not be fit to play.

The reserves' first home game of the season starts at 7pm. In view of the ground re-development., spectators will be admitted only to the Ciba Stand on Midland Road. Admission is £3 and £1 concessions.
