A VILLAGE leader has failed to oust a parish councillor from three of his posts after he compared the council to Saddam Hussein.
Bramhope Parish Council
chairman Coun John Mordy called a debate on the future of fellow councillor Clive Fox as press
officer, planning committee member, and internal audit member, following Coun Fox's
criticism of the council.
As reported in the Observer, Coun Fox likened Bramhope Parish Council's attempts to extend the parish boundary into neighbouring Arthington to the Iraqi leader's invasion of Kuwait.
Coun Mordy said: "In light of what has been said, we must
consider whether it is still
appropriate that Coun Fox should continue.
"We were very unhappy with what Councillor Fox said at the meeting."
But other members of the parish council said they were happy to let Coun Fox continue in his roles.
Coun Mordy said of Coun Fox: "We felt what he said was probably not in accordance with the rule book, and we want to make it clear that, in the letter of the law, he acted as a city councillor."
However, Coun Fox asked for an
apology from the council for
questioning his right to attend meetings.
