Guiseley CC collected their second trophy of the season when their third team emulated the seconds and won the Ian Chappell Cup at North Leeds on Monday.
Batting first in the Ian Chappell Cup Final Guiseley Thirds made 154-7 after a disastrous start in which they were 15-2. Michael Ibbetson then produced a knock of 20 which steadied things but the real fireworks came at the end when number seven Lincoln Wray cracked 34 no and shared an unbroken eighth wicket stand of 54 with number nine Andy Swallow who hit an unbeaten 27.
This pair gave their bowlers something to play with and so it proved.
Alwoodley slumped to 103-9 as skipper Bill Thatcher claimed 3-30, Lincoln Wray 2-21 and Andy Swallow 2-11. Only Don Harris with 22 and Darren Booth with 29 showed any real resistance as Guiseley turned the screw. There was a late flurry from last man Andrew Mylan who hit 17 but this was all too late and the trophy was on its way to Guiseley.
This was the first time in the three year history of the Third Teams competition that the cup has been played on a straight knock-out basis.
On the way to the final Guiseley beat Colton, Otley and Horsforth whilst Alwoodley beat Green Lane, Collingham and Rawdon.
Man-of-the-Match adjudicator Ian Forster selected Guiseeey's Lincoln Wray as his Man-of-the-Match. It was a close run thing between Wray and his Guiseley colleague Andy Swallow.
