Bradford's £5 million Life Force centre - hit by poor visitor numbers - today opted to throw open its doors for free for a whole month.
The new attraction - which scrapped its £4.90 admission fee for adults for the Bank Holiday weekend - decided to tempt new visitors with the offer until its third exhibition opens.
The multi-faith Millennium centre, at St Peter's House in Forster Square, opened in July to poor attendance figures.
The centre has been hit by delays in opening and in getting its exhibitions up and running.
Although its managers declined to reveal how many people attended over the weekend, they said the public response had been good.
Deputy general manager Hayley Lomas said: "We had such an enthusiastic response, and numbers were so good, that we've decided to welcome everyone through the doors for free until our third exhibition, Digital City, opens on October 6."
Digital City is a computer databank of people's memories.
"We've had a lot of very constructive visitor comments. Some we've been able to act on immediately, such as getting extra signage.
"One person said that Life Force was beautifully thought-provoking, and someone else said it was great, and an unforgettable experience."
But the Telegraph & Argus found some visitors were not as enthusiastic.
"I don't think I would have come if I had to pay the normal price. It's only because it's free I came down with my family," said Nancy Ellis, from Undercliffe.
But once inside she was impressed. "Now I'm here it's great." She did feel admission prices were too high.
The centre has been created with National Lottery funds and had been charging £4.90 for adult admission and £3.25 for children and OAPs until last weekend.
