Off-spinner and batsman James Middlebrook could find his future under discussion when Yorkshire hold a final meeting at Headingley today to decide on contracts.

The cricket committee have already had their original recommendations accepted but it is believed this additional meeting has been called to see if further cuts can be made after an unexpected dip in revenue for Yorkshire after the Test match at Headingley was over in two days.

Yorkshire already have two off-spinners on their staff in Middle-brook - a key player in the Bradford League for Pudsey Congs - and Richard Dawson, who has yet to be tried at first team level.

They also have two left-armers in Ian Fisher and Chris Ellison, the latter also awaiting a senior debut.

To retain four uncapped spinners could be regarded as unnecessary and Ellison may already have been considered surplus to requirements along with Ripon-born opening batsman John Inglis and reserve wicketkeeper Matthew Thewlis.

But if further savings are to be made then Middlebrook may be in some danger, although this would be hard on the 23-year-old all-rounder who is turning into an impressive cricketer.

So far he has played in 18 first class matches for Yorkshire, taking 34 wickets at an average of 29.88 apiece, but in recent games he has been omitted in favour of Fisher.
