Four people have been killed and three injured in crashes across the district.
Three teenagers died and two people were hurt when a Vauxhall Corsa was in collision with an Arriva bus at a stop in Spen Lane, Gomersal.
Two passengers on the bus were taken by police to Dewsbury District Hospital. One man was treated for rib injuries following the incident at around 11.30am yesterday.
The three teenagers, who were all in the yellow Corsa, were pronounced dead at the hospital. Police said the victims were a 17-year-old Yeadon male, a 19-year-old from Normanton, Wakefield, and a 19-year-old from Huddersfield.
Cleckheaton and Batley fire crews cut the men out of the car which was in collision with the 227 bus on a road described as an accident blackspot by residents.
Firefighter Adrian Murphy from Cleckheaton's Red Watch was driving behind the bus when the crash occurred.
He said: "I was driving up Spen Lane with my wife just after 11.30am and we pulled up behind the bus. We pulled up when we realised there had been an accident involving a bus and a car. We stopped and went to see if we could do anything."
While his wife rang the emergency services, Mr Murphy gave first aid to two of the men until the ambulance arrived.
"The car was side on to the bus on the bus's side of the road. You never get used to seeing accidents even in this job and turning up cold is even worse," he said.
Chris Hodgson, who lives near the bus stop, said: "I was in the back of the house and just heard a really loud bang. By the time I had reached the front of the house it was all over. You could tell by the look of the car how bad it was and the people on the bus obviously looked really shocked.
"I've been living here 13 years and there have been several accidents, one just a couple of weeks ago where a car went into a wall."
Passengers were able to walk off the bus which had not suffered major damage.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Two vehicles were involved in the accident, a Vauxhall car and a bus. Three people in the car suffered fatal injuries and two people on the bus minor injuries."
Anyone with information on the incident should ring Dewsbury Road Traffic Police on (01924) 421046.
Yesterday's other death crash, involving a red Toyota Carina and a Range Rover, took place outside Fairweather Green fire station in Thornton Road at about 2pm.
A woman was pronounced dead at the scene by a police surgeon. The driver of the red private hire vehicle she was travelling in was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary for treatment to head injuries following the collision. Thornton Road was closed off for about three hours while accident investigators examined the scene and West Yorkshire Police have launched an inquiry into the incident.
