THE crowds flocked to a blooming good charity flower festival at The Grove Methodist Church in Horsforth at the weekend. The Millennium Flower Festival, which saw floral displays shaped to commemorate key historical events of the last 1,000 years, has been hailed a success by organisers. A festival spokeswoman said: "It was a highly successful day. We had good crowds and a lot of people attended from outside Horsforth, which good. We are highly delighted with the way things went." The event raised £4,000 for the Grove Vision Fund to rebuild the ageing youth centre and Yorkshire Cancer Research. Pictured above is Wendy Hartley, leader of the Flower Guild, with a John Wesley display which was arranged by Alan Talbot. She said: "After the death of our Minister the Rev David Bannister and his wife Christine earlier this year, the success of this event is something that will remain for us for the rest of our lives. Rev Bannister's death knocked the stuffing out of us, but to see so many people there was a real tonic. (36-03-AH)
