A Birstall mums and toddlers group has received a grant to help meet the cost of its fight for a children's play area behind shops in Lowood Lane.
MillenniMums & Co were awarded £250 from Kirklees Council's community development services following a meeting with Fieldhead Tenants and Residents Association.
They received backing to consult residents who live by the proposed site.
Nick Kyle, from the community development services, said they hoped to approach Kirklees Lottery Feasibility Fund to secure money for a study of the site.
"We have also been talking to the National Lottery Charities Board and Sport England. It could require anything up to £75,000, depending on the outcome of the feasibility study."
The mums hope to design a kick-about and basketball area and a play area for young children.
