A SUPERB bowling display by Neil Allitt helped Guiseley clinch the long awaited Airedale and Wharfedale Cricket League title on Saturday.

Guiseley won their match at Skipton and then anxiously waited the outcome of Adel's game against Rawdon.

The celebrating went on all night once it was known that Adel had lost.

Guiseley were runners-up to Steeton last season but they have gone one better this time and they surely needed to win a trophy after their second and third teams had enjoyed cup success this season.

With skipper Steve Thompson delayed on his Corfu holiday the lads stepped out without him once more and proved theyh were up to the challenge.

They delivered Guiseley's first title since 1973 and Thompson got back in time to enjoy the celebrations.

Guiseley now face Adel in their final game at Nethermoor Park on Saturday. In the vital game at Skipton Allitt returned a superb 6-65 as Skipton were put out for 107 and with Glen Taylor making an unbeaten 39 and Simon Ross 38 the title was theirs.

Adel made 179-9 on their own ground against Rawdon with Dave Standring leading the way with 53 but Rawdon were in no mood to capitulate and they knocked off the runs with six wickets down. Dennis Rock hammered 47 and M Doyle 39 no.

The runners-up spot will be settled on Saturday with Steeton on 85 behind Guiseley's 91, Adel on 84 and Rawdon on 82.
