Crews from the First Bradford bus company have voted overwhelmingly to go on a one-day strike from midnight tonight over a pay dispute.

It could be the first of a series of strikes unless a settlement is reached over the pay structure which allows senior staff to earn far higher rates than newcomers.

The buses will be off the road until midnight tomorrow, Friday, and unions say there could be further stoppages.

First Bradford managing director Andy Campbell said he regretted the action at the height of the fuel crisis which would leave passengers without the option of public transport.
