An accident-prone Bradford moggie has been named Britain's unluckiest cat.

The eight-year-old feline, called Sadie, has suffered a catalogue of catastrophic accidents to earn herself the dubious honour.

Among Sadie's many accidents are having her tail cut short while trying to dash through a closing door, broken her paw falling into a metal bin, been almost strangled by a plastic bag, and had a near miss with a pair of scissors that had attached themselves to her magnetic cat flap.

Sadie's owner, Roz Price, of Plumpton Walk, Wrose, said: "The cat is driving us crackers. She's totally accident-prone. I've never met an animal like her - she's a one-cat demolition derby.

"She once ran through her locked cat flap and demolished it because she was being chased by a carrier bag!

"Her biggest accident was around last Easter when she was sleeping on an arm of a sofa. Something must have startled her because she fell off, knocked a drink all over the bookcase, and landed in a steel bin and broke her paw.

"We had to take her to an orthopaedic vet in Halifax and in the end the vet's bills came to £1,250. It was a nightmare."

Sadie beat more than 4,000 other unfortunate felines to be named the country's most accident-prone cat in the poll organised by animal insurance company Pet Protect. Her reward is a year's free supply of cat food.

The company's marketing manager Alistair Cook, said: "It was a difficult competition to judge. Sadie has definitely been in the wars, but she is not alone. Most cat owners have similar stories."

But if Sadie had hoped her luck had changed since winning the award she was wrong. Her latest adventure has seen her almost taken out with the rubbish.

Mrs Price, said: "She somehow managed to get into our flip-top bin and settled down for a sleep in there.

"Then my husband came along and dropped a bottle right on her head. She was all right but she wasn't very happy!"
