Bradford's Yvonne McGregor today became the first british woman to win an Olympic cycling medal when she took bronze in the women's 3000 metre individual pursuit at Sydney.
The 39-year-old from Wibsey overhauled New Zealand's Sarah Ulmer virtually on the line in the race-off in the Sydney Velodrome having been over a second behind for much of the race.
For McGregor it was a tremendous boost after finishing fourth in the same event at Atlanta in 1996.
She crossed the line eight-hundredths of a second ahead of her Kiwi rival.
McGregor's hopes of gold had been shattered yesterday when she was comprehensively beaten by Marion Clignet in the semi-final.
The Frenchwoman clocked 3-36.244 to Mcgregor's 3-38.409.
McGregor will now be in good heart for the women's road race and the time trial later in the Games.
