An Iranian physics teachers, claiming racial discrimination against a Keighley school, told a tribunal that though he was one of the most criticised teachers, only £70 was spent on training him in ten years.

Mohammed Rahim Shojaee, 49, is claiming racial discrimination against Greenhead Grammar School head teacher Miles Mizon and Bradford council.

He told the resumed employment tribunal, in Leeds, on Monday, that he had had to take the initiative himself and do further training in his summer holidays at his own expense.

Earlier this year, the tribunal heard that Mr Shojaee, who lives in Leeds, had a problem in maintaining discipline during lessons, which frequently ended in chaos.

He told the hearing: "I took the initiative myself and took a course in management and started to take other courses in my own time, including medical physics at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield.

"It was a case of any excuse they could find to stop me teaching A-levels, they would find it. My career, which started off so promisingly with so many opportunities, had been ruined in these 11 years. I have been through trauma all the time. It has been unbelievable."

The tribunal also heard that Mr Shojaee's claims of racial discrimination had severely damaged Mr Mizon.

Timothy Kerr, representing the respondent, told the tribunal: "He has personally suffered something of an injustice. Though Mr Shojaee is undoubtedly entitled to bring the claim, in Bradford there is not a much more serious charge against a headmaster in an ethnically mixed school and Mr Mizon has been personally wronged."

The hearing, which began in March, was adjourned pending a decision, which is expected within the next six weeks.
