Keighley Town 18, Lindley Swifts 25 - Keighley Town entertained Lindley Swifts in their first home game of the season.
The Huddersfield side, which were relegated from the Premier Division, started brighter and forced an early error from Town. The resulting scrum saw Swifts work a blind side move to score out wide.
Forwards Adie Clough, Brian Ingham and Paul Scott worked hard to get Town back into the game and a neat move between Daz Lynam and Wayne McCombe led to full back Gary Marples race between the posts to leave Neil Kennedy an easy conversion.
When Marples crossed for his second try minutes later and Kennedy converted, Town looked to have taken control but a lapse in concentration on the stroke of half time gave Lindley a converted try. Town led 12-10 at the break.
Town extended their lead 10 minutes into the second half following the introduction of John McCombe. His quick reactions saw him dart over to score in the corner and Kennedy added the touchline conversion.
A disastrous 10-minute period for town saw Lindley draw level with two unconverted tries. Town tried everything the knew to get back into the game but a drop kick from Wayne McCombe went just wide and spilled balls put pressure on Town's defence. Another unconverted try for Lyndley and a drop goal on full time ensured victory.
Wayne McCombe and Rocky McNulty impressed and went close for Town's man of the match award.
The club is now training on Oakbank's all weather pitch on Wednesdays and Fridays from 7pm.
Victoria Rangers 54
Keighley Albion 'A' 10
Albion A showed courage and determination against at tough Victoria Rangers side. Holidays and work commitments reduced the strength of the squad with veteran forward Tim Cooper had to come out of retirement after an absence from the game of one week!
Under-18 scrum-half James Young showed great maturity when he threw a dummy and ghosted in for an easy opening try over 15 metres. Danny Bowness could not convert but the visitors had shown the Bradford side that they were not just there to make up the numbers.
The home side's hooker forced his way over from short range and the conversion set Albion on the back foot. Captain Andy Parker took the lead in both defence and attack supported by Andy Broughton and Jeff Beale.
Half-backs Danny Holland and James Young dictated play but they struggled to make ground against a much larger pack. Mistakes and penalties cost the Keighley side dearly. Albion conceded 2 more converted tries, one of these an 8 pointer.
However just before half-time Danny Bowness dived over and Young added the conversion.to make the score 20-10 at the break.
In the second half Rangers ran in six tries , however heads never went down with Adam Beaumont making a number of strong drives and was unfortunate not to get more reward for his efforts.
Next weekend Albion are at home to the same team and will hope to redress the rather uncomplimentary scoreline of this weekend.
