BURNSALL Village Store will close next month leaving the small community without a shop.
The store, which also incorporates a community post office, has been up for sale since April.
But residents in the village recently received a notice with their papers saying the shop would be closing on Saturday October 7 due to lack of local support.
The store is the only shop in the small village, with the nearest alternative being in Hebden. However there is only a limited bus service in the area.
When the Herald contacted Richard Cheetham who runs the shop, he declined to comment on the future of the business.
Phil Crossley, head of public relations at Post Office Counters Ltd, told the Herald: "The sub-postmaster has given notice on the office. There is a notice period of several months before any closure of the post office.
"We are actively looking for an alternative person to run the post office. This will involve advertising and we will be looking in the local community to see it anyone will take it on.
"We will be doing our best to keep the service running in that particular area."
Craven District Councillor for Burnsall Christopher Knowles-Fitton said he had been "saddened" by the news the shop was closing.
However, he added he believed provisions would be made for the post office to continue in the village.
